It takes a lot of parts to make a brand new vehicle. Where do they all come from? All over, it turns out. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requires that car manufacturers make public the list of countries that provide 15 percent or more of the total parts that make up finished cars. If buying American is important to you, here are the top 15 cars on the U.S. market that have the most parts produced in America (according to Motor Trend).

Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is composed of 65 percent American parts. The engines are sourced from either America or Japan, and the transmissions also come from Japanese automakers. Final assembly is done in the U.S. or Canada.

Acura TLX

The car that replaced the TL and TSX sedans is pretty patriotic. The new model features 65 percent American parts and is assembled in the U.S. The transmissions are sourced from either America or Japan.

Chevrolet Camaro

An impressive 65 percent of the parts that make up the Camaro is sourced from the U.S. or Canada. The car is built in Canada with engines coming from both the U.S. and Mexico.

Cadillac CTS Sedan

The Cadillac CTS is another model that comes in with 65 percent of parts made in America. Final assembly is also done in the states as well. Transmissions for the CTS are frequently brought in from France or Japan.

Cadillac ATS

Similar to the CTS sedan, this sedan and coupe from Cadillac clocks in with 65 percent of its parts from the U.S. The car is built in America with transmissions from the U.S., Mexico, and France.

Ford Taurus

The full-size 2020 Ford Taurus also meets the 65 percent mark for American content. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine used with the Taurus comes from Spain, but the transmissions are from the U.S. and it's assembled in the states as well.

Dodge Charger

The 2021 Dodge Charger is the least expensive rear-drive sedan on the American market. It has a respectable 67 percent rate of American-sourced parts, with 20 percent more content coming from Mexico and final assembly being done in Canada.

Chrysler 200

The 2017 Chrysler 200 has the most American-sourced parts of any domestic automaker. With 67 percent American content and 16 percent Mexican content, final assembly is done in the U.S. and both the engines and transmissions are produced in America, too.

Toyota Avalon

The 2021 Toyota Avalon sedan features 70 percent American content and 15 percent Japanese content. Everything else for this popular model (transmissions, engines, manufacturing) is all American-based.

Honda Accord

Chevrolet Impala

The Chevrolet Impala clocks in with 70 percent American parts and 18 percent Mexican parts. The transmission also comes from Mexico.

Dodge Viper

Seventy-one percent of the 2016 Dodge Viper's parts come from American sources. In addition, the Viper and its 640-hp, V-10 engine are assembled in the U.S. The only international part is its six-speed manual that comes from Mexico.

Toyota Camry

Now, this is an American-made car! The best-selling mainstream midsize sedan in the U.S. comes from a Japanese automaker, but it still has the most American-sourced parts (75 percent to be exact). The engines and transmissions are sourced from both the U.S. and Japan.

Chevrolet Corvette
